The purpose of the Diffuse X-Rays from the Local Galaxy (DXL-3) mission was to study the physics associated with the Solar Wind Charge Exchange (SWCX) and the Local Hot Bubble (LHB). The investigation also attempted to obtain geometric measurements of the SWCX and differentiate the foreground SWCX emission from the background LHB emissions, and also also determine the compound cross section with helium and hydrogen.
